Eighth Entry

Our classmates from university will, at some point, become our colleagues. I believe that from the very begin we must propend to learn about having healthy relationships with colleagues. This is important because on one hand, knowledge is built in community and we should never be enclosed to "absolut thruths". We all may vary as teachers in the approaches and methods we use when teaching nevertheless we will always share knowledge area and reflections upon it will be much broader if we allow ourselves to let constructive comments into our praxis too. I cannot imagine a profession without colleagues as far as their perspectives can also help us solve challenges or struggling situations. After understanding that we must be able to enhance communication with pairs (another language teachers) also we must be dynamic when working at any institution where we will find teachers from other areas. A constant and systematic interdisciplinary work is also part of an ideal education. Whe...

Seventh Entry

We heard a lot about ICTs in the educative context. This concept has begun to become the core of teaching and learning since internet was turned into a human right. We are propending to get internet and information throughout the world. This is a very interesting revolution, as time and space have been redefined as well as "culture". We talk about glocal: whatever is local is also global. Our entire lives have turned into digital worlds. This means a significative change in the way we perceive life and most importantly, information. Eventhough the world is not connected at all, we can grasp probably four or five times more information than our parents or grandparents could. Internet is an endless library of any kind of spontaneous knowledge; from the most basic to the most complex. When technology arrived to our schools we glanced and our eyes shone bright. As an student that had to perceive the change all along my school times, I had the opportunity to be aware of the rushed...

Sixth Entry

Class management is a very important competence a teacher must have. We must be fond of learning how to read different contexts and adapt ourselves to the particular necessities of each. A proper management is not settled upon a harsh authority; conductist like managing, nowadays, can lead to demotivation and in the case of preservice teacher, as I am, this can even lead to mayhem. Children can be blind to your authority strategies if there is a mono directional force that obeys you to work. I believe, kids have unlimited access to so much information they can be starting to get in touch with kind of deeper understanding, even thought they might not be completely conscious of it. That is why we should not overthink how much input we will put but also be able to comprehend they will bring a lot of output with one plus: stuff they are interested on. If management was based upon listening and hearing, in this case listening is what we do to understand a context and grasp the way to contro...

Fifth Entry

The social and political context that embodies our country have been going through hard times in the last decades. We have faced not only economical, social and political problems inside our country but also the problems from our neighbor countries which can propend for the creation of some social problems as migration is. This topic is a matter that concerns our present more than our future. Actually there are many citizens from Venezuela making big efforts at out traffic lights, or wandering thought out our country trying to get somewhere to sleep or something to eat. Some of them try even harder to stablish themselves into any of Colombia's cities, and so, it means they have to start a process of adapting to our culture, manners, customs and laws. Their children, also, must go to our schools and our responsibility as institutions and professionals of education is to understand carefully and deeply this social problem, which is not new at all. Inside our own country masses have b...

Fourth Entry

As English day comes forth, recycling is a concept professor and the school are instilling to students from the very beginning. That is why they are planning every single detailing aspect of this day based on recycling, re using and reducing. This is great as it shows students the many stuff that can be done with used things that look useless. They have done great craftwork with recycling materials from necklaces to astronaut costumes which shows them a different and fun way to recycle. This day mixes students, professors, administratives and parents in a whole kind of fair based upon english and only english. It is nice to interact with everyone in this kind of activities because I believe it helps enhancing the interest of everyone on english not only as a diploma to improve a curriculum vitae but as a magnificent tool for discovering the world. In this day happen all kind of activities prepared from 1st grade to 11th and they have show offs, bazars, science demonstration, etc. that ...

Third Entry

First day with third graders. Professor Esperanza is an experiment teacher that will allow me to understand and overlook how class management has changed with the generational change among the teachers. She has this keen management of classroom that buys some time for actually developing classes effectively. Further, in this grade I started facing a hard reality that face our society and so on, our schools, venezuelan immigrants that start their new homes here in Colombia, which means that their sons must go to colombian schools regarding the universal right of education and helping for this new generations to soften the hard shot given by the political war and poorness at their home country. There is an student that most teacher say looks denourished and has a lack of attention. He is a nice boy, but as I am conscious of this situation I start understanding some of his attitudes. As teachers we must try to understand this social problems that affect the students of our schools and bas...

Second Entry

As my very first week of observing classes at school, I start individualizing some particular situations I have never faced before as the class management with students that have ADD. In the very first sight without grasping it, the situation profiles as very challenging and demanding as it is true that one student can deorganize a whole classroom. Anyway, what I have seen this far, I like the posibility of being able to learn from my pairs and major teachers how to deal with this kind of students that should not be ever considered as sick or marginal. They just need to be helped on finding an school perspective they can use as a rational reason for being compromised with their own learning process. This is why I pay special attention to those students' behaviours that are unveleing new for my pre-service formation. At this initial point I cannot describe specific learnings or take any kind of conclusions nevertheless expectatives are high enough to keep on paying attention to the ...
